Do you report my vehicles to state DMVs?
Yes. We report your insured vehicles electronically to state motor vehicle authorities, so the state can confirm your vehicles are covered. This happens automatically and there is nothing you need to do.
We report daily, but each state moves at its own pace.
We send updates every day, covering new vehicles added to your policy, vehicles removed from it, and policies that end.
What happens next is up to your state. Every DMV processes what it receives on its own schedule and under its own rules.
So a change on your policy is not always visible at the DMV straight away, and the wait is different depending on where your vehicle is registered. That gap is normal.
If you have a question about your state specifically, email support@tint.ai with "DMV update" in the subject line. State rules vary enough that it is quicker to ask us than to guess, and putting DMV in the subject gets your email to the team that handles it.
If you get a notice saying a vehicle is uninsured
State systems sometimes flag a vehicle even when coverage is in place, usually because their records have not caught up.
- Check the dates on the notice. If the period it covers is before your Tint policy started, it relates to your previous insurance rather than to us.
- Contact us before doing anything else. Email support@tint.ai with "DMV notice" in the subject line, and include the VIN, plate number and a copy of the notice. We will check what has been reported for that vehicle and get it corrected.
- If your registration has been suspended, do not drive the vehicle until it is reinstated.
Send us any fine or suspension notice you receive, even if you have already dealt with the DMV, so we have a record of it.
If a DMV will not accept your insurance details
Some states ask for your insurer's details when you register or renew a vehicle. Your NAIC number, policy number and company code are all on your insurance ID card and certificate of insurance, both of which you can download from the portal.
If the state's system will not accept those details, contact us rather than trying again. We can check what has been reported and take it up with the state on your behalf.
