How do I get an RTA or 2A form stamped for my Massachusetts registration?

What these forms are

Massachusetts asks for two insurance-stamped forms:

• RTA, the Registration and Title Application, which the RMV needs to register a vehicle, transfer a plate, or renew a registration.
• 2A, the Notice of Transfer of Insurer, which tells a previous insurer that you have new coverage so they can cancel the old policy.

Both need a stamp from your insurance carrier before the RMV or the previous insurer will accept them.

What we can do today

We cannot stamp RTA or 2A forms for policies underwritten by R.V.I. at the moment.

The stamp uses a company code that the Massachusetts RMV issues to admitted carriers, and in Massachusetts your coverage is written on surplus lines paper, so R.V.I. does not have one. We are working with R.V.I. and the RMV to agree how these forms should be handled. This is a Massachusetts-only issue and does not affect your coverage or any other state.

What to do in the meantime

1. Contact the Massachusetts RMV directly about your registration. Your circumstances affect what options are open to you, and the RMV can tell you what they will accept.
