This page is intended for those who have purchased off-trip insurance. If you have not purchased off-trip insurance, these terms do not apply.
These Off-Trip Insurance Terms & Conditions (these “Terms”) govern your participation in the Off-Trip Insurance Program (the “Program”) offered in connection with your Vehicle’s listing on the Turo platform. This Program provides certain insurance coverage while your Vehicle is not actively being rented on a Turo trip but is used for Turo-related business purposes. Driving or renting the car for private use is explicitly prohibited and may result in coverage denial. Coverage under this Program only applies during specific periods and use cases related to your Vehicle’s Turo listing, as further detailed below.
By purchasing coverage under this Program, you acknowledge and agree that:
- You have read, understood, and are bound by both these Terms and the Off-Trip Insurance Policy (the “Policy”), which is available to you upon written request to Tint Embedded Insurance Services, LLC (“Tint”, “we”, or “us”);
- You are a beneficiary under the Policy, and your Covered Vehicle(s) may be insured under the Policy in accordance with its terms;
- The Policy is a surplus lines insurance policy, underwritten by the insurance company identified in your certificate of insurance; and
- Your use of our insurance services is subject to and governed by our Producer Terms of Service, which are incorporated by reference into these Terms.
Your participation in the Program is expressly subject to the conditions, limitations, and exclusions set forth in both these Terms and the Policy. These Terms supplement, but do not expand, the coverage described in the Policy.
If you have questions or want more information about the Program, please contact us at support@tint.ai.
- Coverage & Limits.
- Coverage. This Program covers eligible Vehicle(s) for which you have purchased coverage under this Program, solely while such Vehicle(s) is/are: (i) enrolled and Active (defined below) on the Turo.com platform (the “Platform”); (ii) outside of a rental period; and (iii) either (x) at the primary garaging or delivery location, parked when the Vehicle’s engine is not in operation, or (y) when the Vehicle is driven to and from the garaging or storage location to a service or delivery area by you, your employee, or a “designated affiliate” (defined below) (collectively, a “Covered Vehicle”). Use of a Vehicle other than the described business use above is not covered under this Program, including but not limited to the private rental use of your Vehicle.
- Eligible Vehicles. For purposes of these Terms, “Vehicles” means automobiles that are located in the United States, have 4 wheels, meet all state legal requirements, and are registered to you or an owner who has authorized you in writing to purchase coverage for such automobiles. “Vehicles” does not include box trucks, limousines, off-road Vehicles, motorcycles, RVs, 3 wheeled vehicles, vehicles that seat more than 10 people, or those requiring a commercial operator’s license, and such vehicles are not eligible for coverage under this Program. In addition, vehicles registered or located in the states of New York or Kentucky are not eligible under this Program.
- Specific Definitions. For purposes of these Terms:
- “Active” means that a Vehicle is currently listed as available for rent by customers on the Platform, is not marked as snoozed, restricted, unlisted, or otherwise unavailable for rent and is in operable condition consistent with the Platform’s rental requirements. For purposes of coverage eligibility under this Program, “Active” further requires that the Vehicle is being used for business activities directly related to its availability on the Platform. Coverage is contingent on ongoing, good faith participation in the Platform’s commercial rental activity. Accordingly, if a Vehicle (x) has not been rented via the Platform on a bona fide trip for an extended period of time, (y) is unavailable, restricted, or snoozed for rental for an extended period of time, or (z) is used for purposes unrelated to Turo business operations (including any private rental use, use on other platforms, or personal use), it may be deemed restricted or inactive on the Platform and any associated claims may be denied. For clarity, while “extended period of time” is not strictly defined, Platform inactivity beyond 30 days may be subject to review, and inactivity beyond 120 days may result in cancellation or denial of coverage.
- Notwithstanding the above, a Vehicle may still be treated as Active during certain limited exceptions. These include: (i) a newly acquired Vehicle that has not yet been listed on the Platform, provided that the Vehicle is listed within seven (7) days of enrolling in the Program; (ii) a Vehicle temporarily restricted or snoozed from the Platform due to a manufacturer recall, so long as the recall is addressed within a commercially reasonable period of time (subject to the nature of the service or repair required); and (iii) a Vehicle undergoing repair, servicing, or inspection following mechanical issues, a collision, or other maintenance needs, provided that the Vehicle is returned to Active status within a commercially reasonable period. During such periods, we may request documentation confirming the Vehicle’s status and mileage, and reserve the right to determine, in our discretion, whether an exception applies.
- “Designated affiliate” means an individual who is (x) at least 21 years of age, (y) expressly authorized by you to use the Vehicle in connection with Platform activities, and (z) not otherwise restricted from driving under applicable law or Platform policies.
- Liability Coverage & Limit. If you participate in the Program, the insurer will pay all sums you legally must pay as damages (“Loss” or “Losses”) because of bodily injury caused by the sudden, direct, accidental property damage resulting from the ownership, maintenance, or use of a Covered Vehicle, subject to the terms and conditions of the Policy. Covered Losses under this section are limited to the minimum amounts required by the state in which your Covered Vehicle(s) is/are located.
- Collision & Comprehensive Coverage & Limit. If you have purchased optional collision and comprehensive coverage, the insurer will pay all Losses you incur because of sudden, direct, accidental property damage resulting from the ownership, maintenance, or use of a Covered Vehicle, subject to the terms and conditions of the Policy. Covered Losses under this section are limited to the lesser of the following, minus any applicable deductible: (i) the actual cash value of the damaged or stolen property as of the time of the Loss; (ii) the cost of repairing or replacing the damaged or stolen property with other property of like kind and quality; or (iii) $100,000.
- State Minimum & Optional Coverages. Optional coverages are declined by the primary named insured under this Program in the states that provide them. In all states, minimum coverage amounts only are provided under the Program.
- Exclusions & Conditions. In addition to the exclusions below, your coverage under the Program is subject to the conditions and exclusions of the Policy, which is incorporated herein in full by reference.
- Property Exclusions. This Program does not cover injuries, liability, or property damage to a Covered Vehicle that arises out of or results from any Host, employee, or affiliate operating the Host’s Vehicle: (i) for personal or non-commercial use; (ii) who is under the age of twenty-one (21); (iii) under the influence of alcohol or an illegal controlled substance; (iv) in connection with any illegal act, including but not limited to a hit-and-run, smuggling people or illegal drugs, the intent to cause damage, such as tailgating, ; (v) with the intention to cause damage; or (vi) without a valid driver’s license.
- Injury Exclusions. This Program will not cover any bodily injuries or property damage that arises out of or results from: (i) assault or battery, whether intentionally caused or negligent, of any Host, employee, or affiliate; (ii) failure to provide a safe environment from assault and battery; or (iii) negligent employment, hiring, supervision, training, or retention of any employees or affiliate.
- Program Conditions. Coverage under this Program is limited to the commercial uses described above and does not take the place of any personal Vehicle insurance you may be required to carry. No coverage is provided under this Program during any private rental use of a Vehicle, including coverage for any business use incidental to or related to the private rental use of a Vehicle. We reserve the right to refuse coverage, deny any claim, or otherwise immediately cancel your coverage, at our sole discretion, due to (i) the private rental use of your Vehicle or (ii) during any prolonged period, in our sole discretion, of Vehicle inactivity on the Platform. You agree that you are responsible for notifying us immediately of any material change to your Vehicle’s information, including but not limited to updates to your Vehicle’s address or a change in its active status.
- Add or Remove Vehicles; Minimum Vehicles. You may add or remove Vehicles from coverage at any time during your contract period. Coverage will begin or end on any new or removed Vehicle, as applicable, as of the date that you request or remove it. You must at all times retain at least 3 active Vehicles on the Platform to remain eligible for coverage, and failure to do so may result in the denial, cancellation, or termination of your coverage.
- Deductible. For each approved claim, you accept and agree that your claim payment will be reduced by the agreed upon deductible as shown in your portal, ID card, or certificate of insurance.
- Plan Options. You have the option to select coverage plans on a per-Vehicle basis. Certain plans require telematics devices in order to effectively administer the plan. If you choose a telematics device plan but fail to connect your device, you may be automatically enrolled in a non-telematics plan or your coverage will be canceled, as described below.
- Telematics Plans. Telematics plans require the installation and use of an approved telematics device. Approved devices are only those devices or subscriptions listed here as a supported device (each a “Telematics Device”). The following sections are applicable to all telematics plans:
- Telematics Device. You agree, as a condition to coverage and at all times while coverage is in effect, to use an approved telematics device that records information about Covered Vehicle driving behavior, including distance driven in all Covered Vehicles covered by the Policy. You agree to provide us with monthly mileage for each Covered Vehicle electronically through a means approved by us.
- Offline Device. If your Telematics Device remains offline for 48 hours or more, we may suspend or cancel your coverage, or deny coverage during the offline period. In our discretion, we may provide you a one-time grace period to install and begin using the Telematics Device in each Covered Vehicle; however, we reserve the right to deny coverage or any claim made during any period that the Telematics Device is offline or not installed.
- Proper Device Installation; Failure to Connect. In order to maintain coverage under a telematics plan, you are solely responsible for ensuring that your selected Telematics Device is properly installed, activated, and fully connected in a manner that transmits data to us. While Telematics Devices may be provided by third parties, and may require you to provide consent or perform onboarding steps through their systems, you must also complete any required connection steps through the Tint portal to authorize data sharing. Because device activation and data authorization processes vary depending on the device provider, it is your responsibility to verify that the device is fully connected and transmitting data to us. You can confirm your device’s connection status through your Tint portal; status information from the device provider alone does not indicate a completed connection. Failure to do so may result in denial of coverage or claims, or cancellation of your policy. Depending on the duration and severity of the failure, we may suspend or cancel your coverage at our discretion. Tint will not be responsible for incomplete setup, partial consent, or failure to authorize the data connection on your end.
- Automatic Migration to Non-Telematics Plan. You acknowledge and agree that repeated failure to connect or transmit data from your Telematics Device may result, at our discretion, in either the immediate termination of your coverage or automatic migration of your coverage to a non-telematics plan. By enrolling in a telematics plan, you consent in advance to such automatic migration and expressly waive any notice requirements otherwise available to you under these Terms or applicable law. Following such migration, you agree to pay any additional premiums, fees, or charges applicable to the non-telematics plan, and acknowledge that your deductible and other coverage terms may change accordingly.
5. Non-Telematics Plans. Non-telematics plans do not require the installation or use of a Telematics Device. However, by signing up for a non-telematics plan, you agree that we may collect applicable Vehicle and driving data from the Platform regarding your Vehicle usage, including but not limited to odometer readings at the start and end of each trip. Non-telematics plans are priced differently and may result in a higher premium than telematics plans. If you fail to complete a valid Telematics Device connection within sixty (60) days of enrolling in a telematics plan, you will be automatically migrated to a non-telematics plan, and the applicable pricing, terms, and coverage for that plan will apply, as provided above. Upon such migration, any applicable rate adjustments and deductible changes will take effect without further notice.
6. Payment Terms & Fees. You agree to pay all premiums, taxes, and disclosed service fees, including any additional mileage-based premiums or credit card processing fees, in advance at the start of each month. Your selected payment method will be automatically charged for all premiums due upon our invoice to you for each monthly billing period.
Coverage and billing begin on the date of your initial enrollment and payment. If you enroll mid-month, your first payment will be prorated for the remainder of that month. Thereafter, billing will occur at the start of each month for that month’s coverage.
Coverage for each billing period will begin only after we receive your full payment. We may suspend or cancel your coverage at any time for nonpayment of any amount due. In addition, we reserve the right to deny coverage or any claim that arises during any period of nonpayment, even if payment is made at a later date. Payment is a condition precedent to coverage, and we are under no obligation to reinstate or retroactively apply coverage for any unpaid period.
7. Underwriting-Based Price Adjustments. You acknowledge and agree that certain underwriting factors may affect the pricing of your coverage on a month-to-month basis. These factors may include, but are not limited to: (i) the utilization rate of your Vehicle(s) on the Turo platform, and (ii) the true market value (“TMV”) of your Vehicle(s), as reasonably determined by us using available industry data sources.
For purposes of this Program, “utilization rate” means the number of days a Vehicle is booked on a Turo trip divided by the total number of days in the applicable calendar period. Utilization rate may be evaluated based on your Vehicle’s operating history over a minimum of six (6) months and up to a maximum look-back period of the most recent twelve (12) months. TMV reflects the estimated retail market value of the Vehicle and may change based on updated market inputs. The calculation and application of both utilization rate and TMV will be made by us at our sole discretion.
By purchasing Program coverage, you consent in advance to monthly premium adjustments based on changes in these and other underwriting factors. Adjusted pricing will apply prospectively starting with the next billing cycle and will be reflected in your monthly invoice. You agree to pay all such adjusted amounts when due, subject to the terms described under Payment Terms & Fees above.
8. Cancellation; Sale or Transfer; Refunds. You may cancel your coverage at any time for any reason. In the event of cancellation, your coverage will continue for the remainder of the billing period in which it was canceled, and no premium will be refunded for the remainder of that period. If you sell or transfer your Vehicle to any third party, coverage under this Program will terminate for that Vehicle immediately upon such sale or transfer. You may not assign any coverage under this Program. In the event of an accident leading to a total loss, you will be refunded your pro-rata premium as of the date of the accident.
9. Reporting a Claim. Claims must be reported to us promptly and supported by sufficient documentation, including photos, receipts, police reports, which may need to be provided to us, at our discretion and upon our request, in order to resolve your claim. At a minimum, all claims submitted to us must include multiple detailed photos of the damage to your Vehicle and, if applicable, photos of the repaired Vehicle. At our discretion, claims involving theft, vandalism, hit and run, or other criminal acts require police reports. Failure to provide evidence of damage may result in the denial of your claim.
10. Renewal. Coverage under this Program will automatically renew at the end of each coverage period. At least thirty (30) days before the end of your current coverage period, we will provide notice of the new pricing, subject to these Terms. If you do not cancel your coverage before the renewal date, your coverage will automatically renew for the next coverage period at the communicated price and subject to these Terms.
11. Lienholders; Additional Interests. You may add additional interest parties to your certificate(s) of insurance via your portal or by contacting us in writing. By adding one or more additional interests, you agree that we may contact any listed additional interest parties in the event of a reported claim, change or cancellation of coverage, or other change to your certificate of insurance (e.g. change of name or address) for the applicable Vehicle.
12. Purchaser Representations. By purchasing coverage, you represent and warrant that all information provided to us regarding you or your Vehicle(s) is true, complete, and accurate to the best of your knowledge. You further represent that the coverage you are purchasing is for commercial use solely related to rentals through the Turo Platform, and that your Vehicle(s) will not be used for personal use, private rental use, use on other platforms, or any other use outside the scope of Turo-related activities during any period covered by this Program. If your Vehicle is used for any such purposes, you represent and warrant that you have obtained other applicable insurance necessary to comply with all laws and regulatory requirements for those uses. In addition, you represent that you will not make any fraudulent claims or materially misrepresent the facts or circumstances of any claim. A breach of this section will result in your claim(s) being denied and your policy may be voided immediately, and we reserve the right to pursue legal action against you as a result of such conduct.
13. Audit Rights. We reserve the right to audit your Vehicle and records as they relate to your participation in this Program at any time during the policy period and for 1 year after to ensure compliance with these terms. In addition, you agree that we may audit data from the Platform or other third party vendors to verify mileage and on/off trip periods. In the event of an audit, you agree to provide us with access to all relevant information and cooperate fully.
14. Updates to Terms; Marketing. We may update and amend these Terms from time to time. We will provide notice of any material updates at least thirty (30) days before they take effect, which may be delivered via email or through your customer portal. By continuing to use our insurance services after any updates take effect, you acknowledge that you have read and agree to be bound by the updated Terms. Additionally, by providing your contact information, you consent to receive marketing communications from us, including emails and text messages, unless you opt out as provided in our privacy policy.
15. Version. These Terms were last updated on December 10, 2025.
