This article explains what it means for a vehicle to be “active” under the Off-Trip Insurance Program for Turo and helps clarify situations where a vehicle may not be considered covered.
🔍 What Does "Active" Mean?
Our off-trip insurance program terms & conditions define “active” as a vehicle that is listed as available for rent by customers on the Platform.
A non-“active” vehicle is one that is marked as snoozed, restricted, or unlisted which results in the vehicle being unavailable for rent due to personal or other non-Platform business use.
💡 Intent Matters: Our coverage is for hosts using their vehicles for Turo business use while not on a Turo trip. If your vehicle is snoozed or unlisted for a short time but you continue to use it for Turo business only, the vehicle is still considered “active” for insurance purposes.
✅ When Is a Vehicle Covered?
Your vehicle is covered under this program only if all the following are true:
- You have purchased Tint’s off-trip insurance for the vehicle.
- The vehicle is:
- Listed and “active” on Turo,
- Outside of a rental period, and
- Either:
- Parked at its primary garaging location, or
- Being used for Turo-related business by you, your employee, or a designee.
🚫 Private or personal use of the vehicle outside of the Turo platform is not covered under any circumstances, including use of the vehicle for any other platform, app, or other gig purpose.
⚠️ When a Claim May Be Denied
A claim may not be covered if:
- The vehicle is snoozed or unlisted for an extended period of time, or
- The use of the vehicle is unrelated to Turo business use (e.g., personal errands or private rentals).
We investigate each claim individually, including reviewing vehicle use history with Turo. If we determine that a vehicle was not being used for Turo-related purposes at the time of an incident, the claim may be denied.
✅ Final Rule of Thumb
If you’ve purchased off-trip insurance, you’re using your vehicle only for Turo business, and it continues to be active on the Turo platform, you are covered.
If not, your coverage could be affected.
