What Happens If I Dispute a Payment or File a Chargeback?

đź’¬ Have a Billing Concern?

If something on your invoice doesn’t look right, we’re here to help. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to our support team at support@tint.ai—we’re happy to review your billing and resolve any issues directly.

📌 Important Billing Information:

  • Your billing reflects your policy status as of the last day of the previous month.
  • Any changes made during the month that result in refunds will be applied as credits in the next billing cycle. For example, if you removed a vehicle on the first of the month, your current billing will not reflect that change.
  • If a vehicle was moved to the non-telematics plan during the last month, the pro-rated charge will be reflected in this billing cycle.

⚠️ What Happens if You Initiate a Chargeback?

If you dispute a payment with your credit card provider, we will be notified by your bank on the date you initiate the chargeback. Once the bank returns the funds to you, we are required to issue an immediate insurance cancellation notice.

Your off-trip coverage through Tint will be void starting from the first date of the disputed billing period, referred to as the Coverage Cancellation Date. Please note that if you have submitted a cancellation request to us in addition to a chargeback, your cancellation date will be the Coverage Cancellation Date, and may differ from the date of cancellation that you requested.

Example: If you charge back your January payment, your coverage will be canceled retroactively as of January 1.

📣 Required Reporting

Tint and our insurance partners are legally obligated to notify the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) when insurance is canceled—regardless of who initiates the cancellation. This means:

  • Your vehicle may be reported as uninsured as of the Coverage Cancellation Date.
  • You may be required to provide proof of alternate coverage to your DMV.
  • Penalties for driving uninsured can include license or registration suspension, fines, or an SR-22 filing requirement.

We may also be required to report a lapse in insurance to our platform partners or other services you use. This may affect your ability to use those services if you cannot show valid proof of coverage.

Please note that if you have submitted a cancellation request to us separately from a chargeback, your cancellation date will be the Coverage Cancellation Date, and may differ from the date of cancellation that you requested.

🔄 Want to Withdraw Your Chargeback?

If you’d like to reverse your chargeback and reinstate coverage:

  1. Promptly contact your bank to withdraw your dispute.
  2. Contact us in writing at support@tint.ai that you have withdrawn your dispute.
  3. Send us written proof that you’ve asked your bank to cancel the chargeback.

Please note that we can only reinstate your insurance after we receive confirmation from your bank that the chargeback has been successfully withdrawn.
