What You Need to Know Before Switching Your Coverage to the $1k Deductible Plan

Tint provides Turo hosts with 3 deductible options designed to provide flexibility when selecting the right coverage for your vehicles. This is everything hosts need to know about switching from a higher deductible plan to the $1k deductible plan.

If you are looking for detailed information about each of our deductible options, please read this article.

What To Know, Before You Switch

You can make changes to your deductible at the vehicle level, along with changes to your coverage level, at any time with Tint.

When Your New Deductible Will Be Effective

When you choose to switch deductibles, it is important to know that the change will be effective the following day. If you decide to make a change on a Wednesday, the new deductible will go into effect starting on Thursday. This means your current deductible option would continue to apply for the remainder of the day you make the switch. There is not an immediate change of plan.

Impacts to Billing

When you move to a lower deductible plan, you will be billed a new higher rate for any of the vehicles you make the switch for. At this time, we are unable to bill you only for the difference in coverage on the day you decide to switch. That means you’ll be charged on the day you switch for the prorated amount of the new plan, for the remainder of the month.

If you switch on the 15th day of the month (and the month has 30 days), you’ll be billed the new rate for the 16th - 30th. If you switch on the 22nd (and the month has 31 days), you’ll be billed the new rate for the 23rd - 31st.

Because you already paid for the full month at the beginning of the month, you’ll receive a credit on your next billing statement for the original rate.

If you switch on the 15th day of the month (and the month has 30 days), you’ll be credited during your next billing cycle for the amount you pre-paid covering the 16th - 30th. If you switch on the 22nd (and the month has 31 days), you’ll be credited during your next billing cycle for the amount you pre-paid covering the 23rd - 31st.

If you have questions about how a switch will impact your billing, please contact our customer support team. We’ll be happy to help answer any questions you may have. We can also assist hosts who are looking to switch 10+ vehicles over the phone. Please call us at (909) 505-2338 or email us at support@tint.ai.

Understanding Why the $1k Deductible Option May/May Not Be Available for Each of Your Cars

When you look through your cars in the portal, you may notice that the new $1k deductible option isn’t available for each car. The following chart breaks down the types of vehicles that will be eligible for this new lower deductible option.

Coverage Type $1k Deductible $2.5k Deductible $5k Deductible
Liability Only N/A N/A N/A

Liability + Comprehensive & Collision

Available for cars with a TMV less than $50k

This means, if your car’s True Market Value (TMV) is under $50,000 you’ll be able to choose between the $1,000 and $2,500 deductible options for Comprehensive & Collision coverage. If your car's TMV is above $50,000 you’ll be on the $5,000 deductible plan.
