Why can't I get an FS-1 filed for my North Carolina registration?
September 9, 2026
What we can do today
We cannot submit FS-1 forms for policies underwritten by R.V.I. at the moment. We do not currently have a date for when that will change.
If you are underwritten by Mobilitas, please click here for assistance on a FS-1.
Current Issue
We cannot file an FS-1 for policies underwritten by R.V.I. at this time. The NCDMV also does not normally accept a printed FS-1 or a certificate of insurance handed in at the counter as a substitute.
This does not affect your coverage. Your coverage remains active with R.V.I. and nothing about your coverage has changed. The limitation is on the state reporting of the FS-1 form only, and it is specific to North Carolina.
What an FS-1 is
North Carolina uses the FS-1. It is a Certificate of Insurance that your insurance company files electronically with the North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles (NCDMV) to confirm your vehicle carries the required liability coverage.
You never receive or carry the FS-1 yourself. It goes directly from the insurer into the NCDMV system. It is typically needed when you register a new or newly purchased vehicle, respond to an insurance termination notice (Form FS-5), or restore a plate after NCDMV records show a lapse.
What to do in the meantime
Email support@tint.ai with your vehicle's VIN and what you are trying to do, for example, registering a new vehicle or clearing a lapse notice. We log every request and will contact you directly as soon as we are able to file.
